Graffito. Written orthograde, counterclockwise on the lip of the rim. Confident, practiced hand. Neat and even letters. Rho with open loop, with a hint of a tail. Epsilon with slanting horizontals.

Commentary

It is possible that the name of Apollo was also included in the lost part of the inscription ([Ἀπόλλωνος τ]ō Ἰητρō, but the divine epiclesis could also be used on its own. The epigraphic form of 'speaking object' is common in the Archaic period.
